Kasey Louis Miller Scholarship

Kasey Louis Miller was a beloved son and brother, an active young man, and a determined student in the Department of Kinesiology. On October 3, 2013, during his final semester in the program, he unexpectedly passed away only weeks after applying for graduation. Unfortunately, Kasey never saw the confirmation of the Bachelor of Science degree he earned. His family received the diploma in his honor.

As noted by his professors, Kasey was hardworking and engaged in the classroom, never hesitating to participate in discussion. He also served as a counselor at SF State’s Gator Camp, a summer program for local youth run by his mentor, Professor David Walsh. Not only did Kasey enjoy the experience of working with children, he became even more determined to pursue a career that utilized his education and skill set in exercise physiology.

While academics did not always come easily to Kasey, he continued to persevere to successfully complete the rigorous kinesiology curriculum. He did so while managing his long-time diagnosis of type 1 diabetes and working to be financially independent. His family and friends remain proud of his commitment and determination to achieve his goal.

Lezlee Inman is Kasey’s mother and a proud SF State alumna. She has chosen to honor her son’s memory through the establishment of the Kasey Louis Miller Fund in Kinesiology. This fund benefits other promising, hardworking kinesiology students like Kasey whose completion of their undergraduate degree may be hindered by financial challenges.
