Florence Hale Stephenson Alumnae Scholarship
Beginning in 1918, Florence Hale Stephenson was the department chair for Physical Education at the San Francisco State Normal School. Throughout an extraordinary career, she dedicated her life to advancing opportunities and expanding possibilities for women in education and athletics.
The Florence Hale Stephenson Scholarship is intended for Kinesiology majors with a Concentration in Physical Education or Integrated Teacher Education Program, who are planning to enter the California Teacher Credential Program in Physical Education and who demonstrates a strong commitment to improving the lives of girls and young women. The award is one semester in-state tuition.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Must be a senior majoring in Kinesiology with a concentration in Physical Education or Integrated Teacher Education Program, and who will be entering the SFSU Teacher Credential Program in Physical Education
- Must completed of a minimum of 24 units at SFSU, including minimum of 12 upper division Kinesiology units
- Must have a minimum SF STATE GPA of 2.8
- Must have applied to California Teacher Credential Program
- Must demonstrate the need for financial assistance

Additional Requirements:
1. Two letters of recommendation -- One (1) letter of recommendation from a Faculty in the Kinesiology Department and one (1) letter of recommendation from a supervisor from work or internship site.
2. Personal Essay (500 words) (.doc or .pdf) -- Why do you want to become a physical education teacher? What influenced your decision to pursue the SFSU Teacher Credential Program in Physical Education? How will this scholarship award help you achieve your goal of becoming a physical education teacher?
