San Francisco State University, Department of Kinesiology offers an exciting opportunity for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Motor Behavior beginning August 9, 2023. We seek a colleague whose teaching and research interests include motor learning, motor development, and/or neuromotor control. We are especially interested in qualified candidates with a demonstrated commitment -- through their research, teaching, and service -- to centering social and racial justice and advancing the diversity and excellence of our academic community/department/program.

The mission of the Kinesiology Department at SFSU is to enhance the theory and practice of Kinesiology and educate students who can apply their knowledge and skills to physical activity contexts such as sport, pedagogy, exercise, performance, rehabilitation, and activities of daily living. The department has over 700 majors and offers two Bachelor’s degrees (Exercise and Movement Science, and Physical Education) and a Master’s degree. The department embraces an interdisciplinary approach to Kinesiology.

Responsibilities: The position requires graduate and undergraduate teaching in Motor Behavior, mentoring and advising graduate and undergraduate students, developing an active ongoing scholarship program focusing on social justice and equity in one’s area of specialty, and ongoing committee and service assignments.

 

Qualifications

Required:

  • Ph.D. in a subdiscipline of Kinesiology related to Motor Behavior. Terminal degree must becompleted by the first day of employment.
  • Record of working and communicating effectively with colleagues and students.
  • Demonstrated ability to incorporate inclusion, diversity, and educational equity in teaching,and/or scholarship/creative works.
  • Experience teaching and working closely with students from historically under-represented communities.

Preferred:

  • Record of teaching contributions in the areas of motor control, motor learning, motor development, and the general field of Kinesiology.
  • Active record of scholarship related to the subdiscipline of Motor Behavior and evidence of externalsupport or the potential for external funding of these activities.
  • Record of contributing to supportive and collaborative work environments.
