Claudia Guedes, Ph.D. specializes in Physical Education Teaching Education and physical activity engagement by children and adolescents. She is Director of the Research Group on Physical Education and Cognitive Development that focuses on innovative practices and alternative strategies to enhance participation in physical education classes to achieve higher student learning outcomes. She is a member of American Alliance of Physical Education Health Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD); National Association for Physical Education and Sport (NASPE); a reviewer member of the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE); member of the Derek Bok Institute (Harvard University) and International Teaching and Learning Research Group, Shape up SF (local Active living collaborative) and Physical Education Advocates (PE Advocates San Francisco). Recent Projects include: Transcultural translation for accurate application of Fitnessgram test in Brazilian Children and Adolescents (collaboratively with University Federal de Juiz de Fora – Brazil); Yoga benefits for young adults diagnosed with Affective Disorders (Collaboratively with Friends and Family of Bipolar Children and Youth Association – Brazil); state school-based physical activity and physical education policies; and policy-maker and neighborhood perspectives on physical activity; and state obesity plans with Dr. Zieff.
